BURLINGTON, WI (Tuesday, August 19, 2008) – The tenth event of the 2008 season for the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment is now in the record books with Donny Reuvers picking up his third win of the season in front of a large crowd of 3,800. The Shakopee 100 event really made a difference in the point standings with four events remaining.
ONCE AGAIN, QUALIFYING WAS IMPORTANT
Typically, qualifying is not as exciting as an actual race to some fans. But, this year in the ASAMT, qualifying is as equally important as to the finish of a race.
Travis Sauter collected his second ever ECHO Power Blower by setting a new ASAMT track record time of 13.354 seconds at Raceway Park. In fact, the top eight in qualifying were under the old mark set last year by Dan Fredrickson who had a time of 13.493 seconds.
Bryan Roach beat Nick Murgic for the 16th qualifying spot into the main event by .007 seconds. Murgic did win his qualifier heat and came back to finish ninth in the 100-lap feature while Roach finished 14th.
The entire field was separated by .537 seconds.
THE NUMBER 46
Back at the SCAG Power Equipment Dixieland 150 at Wisconsin International Raceway, Reuvers fell out with mechanical problems and lost 46 points to Fredrickson in the championship race.
This past Sunday, Fredrickson fell out with engine problems with eight laps to go to finish 20th.
With Reuvers picking up the win, he was not only able to get those 46 points back, but he was also able to gain 12-points as well.
Fredrickson now has a 46 point lead over Reuvers in the standings going into the next event this Sunday at The Milwaukee Mile.
BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!!!
Not only is Reuvers close to Fredrickson, but the top-ten is only separated by 278 points. And remember the most points a driver can receive at one event is 160 points.
Travis Sauter sits in third only 194 points behind the leader with Tim Schendel in fourth only 200 points back. Jonathan Eilen is fifth, 204 points back, with Jamie Iverson in sixth only 205 points behind Fredrickson.
Chris Wimmer is only 219 points behind in seventh while Andrew Morrissey is only 233 points back in eighth. Nathan Haseleu is ninth, 262 points behind and Blake Horstman rounds out the top ten only 278 points behind.
The top-ten should be fun to watch with four events remaining.
DID YOU KNOW?
Steve Carlson has one of the most impressive racing records among active drivers, but he has yet to pick up a win at America’s Legendary Oval. Carlson said on Sunday night after his third place finish, that he will make another attempt this upcoming Sunday to add that to his impressive racing resume.
Dan Fredrickson won a Super Late Model feature event at The Milwaukee Mile in 2004. While defending ASAMT Champion Nathan Haseleu picked up a Wisconsin Challenge Series win there in 2006.
Tim Schendel finished second in an ARCA Re/Max Series event in 2006, behind winner Phil Bozell.
The Governor’s Cup weekend was rejuvenated in 2004 according to The Mile’s website. The Super Late Model winners include: 2004- Dan Fredrickson, 2005-Jeremy Miller, 2006-Nathan Haseleu, and 2007-Matt Kenseth.
AND FINALLY, YOU HAD TO BE THERE TO SEE IT
On Sunday morning, as the driver’s meeting was wrapping up, something unique happened that probably hasn’t happened in any other series in the world, a fly over?
Apparently, there was an air show not far from Raceway Park and as Tim Olson, ASAMT President, was ending the meeting a formation of four World War II bomber plans flew over the grandstands. Minutes later, the same planes with two more flew over in formation as well.
Too bad, they didn’t do this around 6:00 pm that evening.
The ASAMT teams will now go from the quarter-mile to The Mile, The Milwaukee Mile for the running of the Wisconsin All-Star 100 with Matt Kenseth, a Five Star Race Car Bodies No Bull Event on Sunday, August 24th. Matt Kenseth will be back to defend his 2007 event win with current NASCAR Sprint Cup point leader Kyle Busch also competing. Kenseth and Busch will be coming from to The Mile fresh off their NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night.
Please visit the ASAMT website (www.asamidwesttour.com) for ticket information including a special hospitality package through RK Race Promotions that includes a reserved grandstand seat, pit pass, food, beverages, and a Matt Kenseth autographed laminated hospitality ticket for $75. This will be available on race day as well.
