BURLINGTON, WI (Friday, August 08, 2008) – It has become a border battle in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Power Equipment. So far this season, six of the nine events have been won by Minnesota based drivers. But it has been Wisconsin drivers taking the last three.
Dan Fredrickson, current ASAMT point leader, started the Minnesota dominance with his win at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN in 2007 by claiming the last two events of the 2007 season.
That dominance continued into the 2008 season with Jake Ryan taking the season opening win at Elko Speedway and Fredrickson keeping the streak alive by winning at Madison International Speedway.
Jonathan Eilen did his part by winning at Jefferson Speedway then Donny Reuvers took over by winning at Dells Raceway Park and Grundy County Speedway. Fredrickson then had a dominating performance at I-94 Raceway.
But that is where the Minnesota streak ended as Steve Carlson started a Wisconsin streak by winning at Hawkeye Downs and then Tim Schendel followed that up less than 48 hours later by winning at Iowa Speedway.
This past Tuesday night, three Wisconsin drivers were on the podium following the SCAG Power Equipment Dixieland 150 at Wisconsin International Raceway with Steve Carlson picking up his second win of the season and third overall ASAMT win.
Could the Sunday, August 17th event at Raceway Park in Shakopee be another start of a Minnesota domination or will Wisconsin keep their streak going or will a Michigan driver put his car in victory lane?
Another thing to consider about the upcoming Shakopee 100 and that is this. It was at this event last year that Nathan Haseleu took over the point lead from Donny Reuvers and would go on to become the inaugural ASAMT champion.
It may be a small track, but some big stories have come from it.
ASAMT practice will get underway at 12:45 pm with qualifying at 4:00 pm. The popular ASAMT autograph session will take place at 5:00 pm with the first race at 6:00 pm.
The Raceway Park Hobby Stocks and Figure 8 divisions will also be racing on Sunday, August 17th.
Raceway Park is located at One Checkered Flag Blvd, Shakopee, MN 55379. Their website is www.goracewaypark.com.
