BURLINGTON, WI (Tuesday, July 08, 2008) – Dan Fredrickson’s win this past Saturday in the ECHO Bear Cat July Spectacular 100 at I-94 Raceway, an ASA Member Track, allowed him to increase his points lead over second place runner Donny Reuvers. He currently has an 85 point lead after six of the 14 events in the 2008 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment.

Fredrickson picked up 150 of the 160 points he was eligible to get this past Saturday night. He received 100 points for the win, 12 points for qualifying 5th, 18 points for finishing second in his fast heat, and 20 appearance points.

Reuvers picked up 134 points. He received 82 points for his fourth place finish in the feature, 16 points for qualifying third, 16 points for finishing third in his fast heat, and 20 appearance points.

Travis Sauter sits third only 160 points behind Fredrickson in the standings. Sauter started 25th and finished 8th in the feature event to keep him within reach of Fredrickson.

Chris Wimmer keeps moving up the point standing as he is now fourth only 214 points behind the leader. Wimmer took home his first fast qualifier award this past Saturday.

It was a tough weekend for Andrew Morrissey as he failed to make the feature field at I-94 Raceway. But he is still fifth in points and only three points behind Wimmer.

Jamie Iverson and his crew make the 480+ mile trek from Escanaba, MI to finish 11th this past Saturday night. He is currently sixth in points, 222 points behind Fredrickson.

Sitting 240 points behind the leader is Blake Horstman. He sits seventh in points after this 13th place finish.

If there was anyone that breathed a sigh of relief that he made the feature field, it would have to be Tim Schendel. To say he had an off night would be an understatement for the veteran driver. But, he is eighth in points only 252 points behind Fredrickson. Schendel will be one of a few drivers that will have experience at the two tracks coming up at Hawkeye Downs and Iowa Speedway. He could be one to watch among the other stars competing during the “Western Swing.”

The champ is starting to make his presence known. Nate Haseleu’s second place finish last Saturday had smiles all around The Swiss Colony/raceteamgear.com team. He is ninth in points, only one point behind Schendel and 253 behind the leader.

Last year’s Rookie of the Year Jonathan Eilen rounds out the top ten, 266 points behind Fredrickson.

Want to know how competitive this season has been? Look at this one stat, of the 84 drivers who have at least one ASAMT appearance, only 12 have started every event. And those 12 are among the top 15 in points.

Nick Murgic is the only rookie to have started every event so far.

The ASAMT will make its “Western Swing” on July 18-20th in the state of Iowa. On Friday, July 18th the ASAMT will make its return to Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids for the re-scheduled Keith Fleck Miller 100. Then it’s a 1 ½ hour drive west to Iowa Speedway in Newton for the tour’s first visit. The track will have practice on Saturday and on Sunday, a 150-lap feature event.

Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch will be competing in the Iowa Speedway event.

Also, please watch for updates on www.asamidwesttour.com about the fund raising efforts that the ASAMT will be assisting with to help the flood victims in Iowa.
