BURLINGTON, WI (Friday, June 27, 2008) - Since the ravaged flooding had previously cancelled the Hawkeye Downs event in Cedar Rapids, the official rescheduling date is Friday, July 18th. That date has beefed up an already exciting weekend as the biggest event of the year for the ASAMT Stars heads to Newton, Iowa for the Rasmussen Group Twin 75's.
The rescheduling of the Keith Fleck Memorial 100 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA will bring back the title once used by the ARTGO Challenge Series titled "The Western Swing"
“We decided that the Friday before Newton was as good as any or if not the best date to have a successful event for our fans and the racers in attendance. It has been a rough past few weeks for everyone effected in Cedar Rapids but we feel we can turn this event into something very special by raising money for flood victims,” stated Dudley Fleck.
The Keith Fleck Miller 100 officials will be working closely with groups such as the Salvation Army and or Red Cross to raise money for flood victims at this event. “We are working quickly to turn this event into something extra special for our local residents. Its an opportunity for our area fans to come out and see a great racing event while a portion of their ticket purchase will go towards helping those in need,” added Fleck.
Along with helping those in need on an event filled exciting racing weekend, ASAMT officials have announced added incentives for those attending both events from the ASA Midwest Tour and the ASA Southeast Tour.
"We are working very closely with our sister series, the ASA Southeast Tour, to promote a few events that can bring our competitors together to compete against each other,” Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP stated. “Iowa Speedway is obviously the biggest event on our schedule and since we moved our Hawkeye Downs date to the Friday of the same weekend it will allow for many teams to race twice in one weekend and save a lot on travel expenses.”
"It may be a long weekend but in the end, everyone feels that it will save thousands of dollars in travel expenses and both events will attract many new competitors from both regions. We are getting interest from all over the Midwest, to Florida, Texas, Alabama and North Carolina from competitors interested about running on the beautiful 7/8 mile high banked facility.”
ASAMT Officials along with Keith Fleck Memorial promoter Dudley Fleck and Iowa Speedway have announced provisional spots for the ASAMT and to entice competitors from the ASASEAT Tour. On Friday, July 18th one additional provisional will be added for the highest in current points in the ASASEAT. On Sunday, at Iowa Speedway, two additional provisional positions were added for ASASEAT competitors along with, three ASAMT Provisional’s for the highest in 08 series points. A special provisional will also be added to include the highest finishing position from Hawkeye Downs on Friday that misses or does not make the event on Sunday.
"I think this is a great gesture by both tracks to add these provisionals and it will give the competitors from our series and the ASASEAT some relief in knowing they have that extra chance to make the show if they need it. We are growing our bond with the other regional series under Dennis Huth's American Speed Association and this will make for a great weekend of racing,” stated Tim Olson, ASAMT President.
All competitors are encouraged to visit www.asamidwesttour.com to fill out a quick Hoosier Tire questionnaire. Hoosier is constructing a tire for the Iowa Speedway event and the Milwaukee Mile. In order to help them know how many tires to build for these events we need to know how many cars are attending.
The entry form for Hawkeye Downs is currently posted on the ASAMT website. Competitors that were previously entered do not need to re-enter this event. The Iowa Speedway entry will be posted as soon as all details are finalized.
