September date will have a special meaning for the event promoter

BURLINGTON, WI (Thursday, June 26, 2008) – For Steve Parsons, going to the racetrack was a bonding experience for himself and his daughter Kim. Sadly, that ended earlier this year as she lost her life to a tragic accident.

“We were best friends, we were a father and daughter who enjoyed doing something together,� Parsons, the track announcer at Marshfield Super Speedway in Marshfield, WI recently stated. “She was a mom and loved her girls.�

In honor of his daughter, Parsons along with the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment have announced a 14th race date schedule for Sunday, September 7th at Marshfield Super Speedway. The 100-lap event will be called, “The Kim Parsons Memorial.�

“We took her to her first race when she was three months old. We made sure her ears were covered and from a little bitty kid and on, she got into racing,� Parsons recalled. “She would cheer and root on her favorite drivers. I wouldn’t go to a race without taking her along. I would always organize the Fall Spectacular and she would make the program books for that. In fact one of them was over 50 pages long. She was also a track princess, giving trophies out to the winners, she really loved being with the drivers and the teams.�

It wasn’t long after the loss, that he started thinking of doing something special in honor of Kim, “It was in the beginning of April that I started thinking of doing a special event in honor of my daughter,� Parson stated. “I saw the ASAMT schedule and noticed there was an open date in September and I started to think about it. I went with a couple of buddies over to Elko Speedway and came back and thought that was an awesome event.�

“I have been to several ASAMT shows and thought they were awesome shows,� Parsons exclaimed. “I contacted Steve (Einhaus, ASAMT VP) and we started talking. I also got a lot of encouragement from ASAMT competitor Mark Kraus who said he would help met get sponsors for the event. When we got the date, I called Mark on a Tuesday night and by Wednesday, he already had about $5,000 in sponsorships and now we have about $20,000 in sponsors so far.�

“Since our first discussion last Spring about this event I have realized how very important and special the Kim Parson’s Memorial is for Steve and a lot of their friends,� Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP stated. “We have had Marshfield on our radar since day one of the series and having Steve ask us to sanction the event was a huge boost for our schedule. To honor Kim in this event will not only make our schedule complete, it will be a special day for our teams, the fans, and for the Steve Parsons family.�

Parsons also stated that limited late models and 4-cylinders will also be running in support of the ASAMT on September 7th.

Marshfield Super Speedway is a half-mile paved oval located three miles west of Marshfield, WI on County Trunk H.
