SCHENDEL FINISHES THIRD IN THE “10th ANNUAL ELMER MUSGRAVE MEMORIAL 100” THIS WEEKEND

Looking ahead to this week, Schendelʼs on tap for another ASA Midwest Tour race and Nationwideʼs Road America race

Sparta, WI, June 20, 2011 -- ASA Midwest Touring Star, Tim Schendel, came home with a third place finish in the fourth race on the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Equipment schedule in Schererville, IN this past weekend. The “Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100” race was run caution free at the Illiana Motor Speedway but that didnʼt mean the third place spot came easy for Schendel. It was hard fought driving and close racing for Schendel through most of the 100 laps.

After qualifying tenth and winning his heat race, Schendel started in the third position due to the mandatory invert in the feature race. He would find himself battling for the third position through most of the race. Chris Weinkauf and Schendel fought for the third position in the beginning of the race. Weinkauf eventually backed off and then Jacob Goede was on Schendelʼs bumper wanting the third spot. Goede gave Schendel a run for his money but ultimately, settled in the fourth position. With around twenty laps to go, the front four cars cleared the field but were inches from each other until the end. Ultimately, Schendel finished third in the caution free race. Ross Kenseth came home with the victory with Chris Wimmer took the second spot.

“It was a hard fought third!” Schendel said after the race. “Goede and Weinkauf didnʼt give up. It really speaks to the driverʼs talents in this series that we can race that close through the whole race and have no cautions. Congrats to Ross on his win.”

Schendel is in third place in overall point standing in the ASA Midwest Tour behind series leader Ross Kenseth and second place Andrew Morrissey.

Next up for Schendel is the ASA Midwest Tour is the “Flip Irwin Memorial” on Thursday, June 23 at the State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI. From there, Schendel is headed to Road America at Elkhart Lake, WI on Friday to once again drive the #52 Means Chevrolet in the Nationwide race on Saturday, June 25 at 5:30p. This race will be televised on ESPN.

“Iʼm looking forward to going to Road America.” Schendel said. “I havenʼt raced a road course in a long time so it will be fun to get on something different than an oval!”
